We’ve been having heaps of Green Smoothies this summer and discovered many new favourites. The Plasilicum Smoothie is one of them.

‘Plasilicum’ Smoothie has Jamie’s stamp of approval

It’s sweet yet tart and very refreshing, especially if you blend it up with ice. Basil doesn’t just delight with its taste either, but also offers many health benefits.  Like most culinary herbs, it’s a carminative which means that it aids digestion, may soothe stomach aches and relieve gas. Basil eases muscle spasms, contains anti- inflammatory and anti- bacterial essential oils, anti- oxidants, iron, Vitamin K, potassium, manganese, copper and potassium.

Plums aren’t lacking either: they’re rich in Vitamin C, B Vitamins, potassium, Vitamin K, anti- oxidants and fiber, supporting a well-functioning digestive system.


 4 plums

4 ripe bananas

1 c loosely packed fresh basil

3 c spinach or silverbeet (de-ribbed)

¾ c soaked almonds or pumpkin seeds (optional)

½ c black currants (optional)

3 c water or 2 trays of ice cubes

Blend until smooth. Enjoy!
